Developed in the 17th century

Maltese dogs onboard mated with local terriers to produce the Sky Terriers.
They were used to hunt den animals and also were fancied by royalty for
a period of time. |
| Description |
This very loyal, intelligent
spunky breed makes an excellent family pet. They are affectionate with
their family and enjoy plenty of attention. Skye Terriers are naturally
suspicious of strangers including strange children and dogs, so they make
great watch dogs. Early socialization is highly recommended for homes
with children other dogs and pets. They do best with older, well behaved
children. Some have been known to be dog aggressive. Because of their
den animal hunting history, they might chase smaller pets. Early training
is important too because they can be head strong at time. They love and
need plenty of play time. They are active indoors and make excellent apartment
dogs as they can do fine without a yard. When outside they should either
be in a secured yard or on a leash because if they see an interesting
critter they are apt to chase it. |
