| Origin |
Originating in China, the Pug
dates back to 700 BC. There is much debate over which breeds were used
to develop the Pug. They have been used as companion dogs or royalty and
nobility throughout history. They eventually made their way into Europe
when trade was going on between the Chinese and European ships. |
| Description |
This spunky, little, lap dog
makes an excellent house pet. They were bred as companions and they love
to be with their family. They work best in households where someone is
home throughout the day as they don not like to be alone. They are energetic,
happy dogs. They do well with dogs and other pets, but early socialization
is best for them. Because of their small size and "in charge"
attitude, they do best with older, well behaved children. They require
regular play and exercise, but take heed not to over exert them. Pugs
make excellent watchdogs and will let you know if they here anything unusual
or if someone is at the door. |
| Health |
Respiratory problems
and allergies are their main source of problems. Minor eye problems and
skin problems. They need to be kept cool in the summer and warm in the
winter. Pugs typically deliver by Cesarean. They tend to overeat, so make
sure you do not overfeed them. |
