| Origin |
Originating in the middle east
(some sources say Egypt), this ancient breed dates back thousands of years.
They were originally used in hunting and the combination of their strength,
speed and agility made them excellent hunters. They are mainly used in
dog raising today and, unfortunately, they are often destroyed when they
can no longer race. For this reason, there are many Greyhound rescue organizations
that aim to protect retired racers. |
| Description |
This breed has moderate to high energy outside and is calm inside.
They have a graceful, docile sweet nature and often air on the timid
side. They are good with children, especially those that are well behaved,
and other dogs, but early socialization is recommended. They are not
always best with other small pets, including cats, as they often chase
them without proper socialization. They are easy to train provided they
have consistent training. Because of their calm nature, they don't require
an extreme amount of exercise, but they do need the opportunity to run
a little each day. They are not good watch dogs.
