Coat
The outer coat is 1-2 inches
in length, straight, harsh, wiry and lies flat against the body. The undercoat
is very dense in the winter and thin in the summer. Typically has a beard.
Origin
This hunting breed was developed
in Germany in the early 1900s. Dog breeds that contributed to the development
of the German Wirehaired Pointer include the Wirehaired Griffon, Poodle-Pointer
mixes, Bloodhound and Foxhound.
Description
This intelligent, active breed
enjoys working, exercise and being on the go. They don't like to be bored
and enjoy feeling like they are working. They make good family pets and
are very loyal and affectionate with their owners. German Wirehaired Pointers
are great watchdogs. They do best with older children and other pets and
dogs when they are socialized at a young age. They are great for families
with an active life style as they need plenty of exercise and play. They
make excellent hunting dogs.
Health
An overall healthy breed. Minor
eye and ear problems and problems with arthritis and hip displaysia.
