| Origin |
Originating in Germany in the
1800s, the German Shorthaired Pointer was originally bred to be the ideal
hunting dog. They are a mix of many breeds including the the Old Spanish
Pointer, English Pointer, Hounds of St. Hubert, the Foxhound and other
hounds. They were used to hunt both birds and animals on land. |
| Description |
This intelligent, highly energetic
breed makes a perfect companion for those with an active home. They get
along well with children, other dogs and most other pets although they
do not always get along well with pet birds. Because they have so much
energy, they might be too active for very small children. They need a
lot of exercise and are not meant to be cooped up inside all day. The
love companionship and are happiest when they are with their family rather
than alone. The German Shorthaired pointer still makes a excellent hunting
companion. |
| Health |
An overall healthy breed. Minor
problems with hip displaysia, seizures, eye problems and ear infections. |
