Considered to be an ancestor of the Miniature Pinscher, Schnauzer and Doberman. It has been used mainly as a watchdog, guard dog, family pet and vermin hunter.
Description This intelligent, energetic breed requires early socialization and training. They can be stubborn and possessive of their home, toys, etc. and they need to learn early to obey and to curb this possessive nature. Not always good with young children or children who are not well behaved because of their possessive nature and they can be aggressive at times. Can also be aggressive towards other dogs or pets if not properly socialized. They require regular exercise and play. Because of their possessive nature, they make excellent guard dogs and watchdogs.
Health An overall healthy breed. Minor problems with hip displaysia, eye problems, hypothyroidism and a type of hemophilia known as Von Willebrand's Disease.
