| Origin |
There is some discrepancy between
the English and French as to which country is the actual country of origin
of the French Bulldog. The English bred miniature versions of the bulldog.
In the mid-1800s, this smaller version of the English Bulldog was imported
to France and French breeders bred the English Bulldogs with French Terriers
or Toy Bulldogs (again another discrepancy) creating the French Bulldog.
They were manily used as companion dogs. |
| Description |
The French Bulldog was bred for
companionship and companionship is what this breed craves. This happy-go-lucky,
friendly, comical breed makes an excellent fmaily pet. They do wellwith
children, other pets and other dogs. Becasue they are so small, they might
be overpowered by children who are not well behaved. They are jovial dogs
that enjoy playing games and will undoubtedly make you laugh. Becasue
they crave companionship, they do best in homes where there is someone
home throughout the day. They make good apartment pets as they are not
overly energetic and, although they need regular exercise, don't need
a lot of room to run and roam. |
| Health |
Prone to various health problems
including eye problems, transitional vertebrae, luxating patellas, respiratory
problems and hip displaysia. They don't tolerate too much heat and therefore
require air conditioning in the summer. |
