Originating in England in the
1800s, the Flat-Coated Retriever was developed by crossing many breeds
including the Newfoundland, Labrador, Irish Setter and Pointer. It was
originally used for hunting and retrieving. |
| Description |
This gentle, intelligent, friendly,
lovable breed can make an excellent family pet. They do well with children
and other pets and dogs, although they might have trouble with small pets
when not properly socialized due to their hunting instincts. They enjoy
family companionship and are very affectionate with just about everyone
they meet. They are a pretty energetic breed and need regular exercise
and play. They enjoy going for walks or running and love to explore. They
still make good hunting companions as well. |

Overall good health. Minor problems
with hip displaysia, hypothyroidism, epilepsy and patella luxation. They
are also prone to bloat. |
