Two different hair types. The
short coated breed has a short, straight, harsh and thick and with a short,
dense undercoat. The long coated breed has a long, harsh, thick outercoat
that is flat to wavy and lies close to the body and a very dense undercoat.
The coat of the long haired breed is said to resemble goat hair in texture.
Origin
The Estrela Mountain dog is an
ancient breed originating in portugal. It was used mainly for herding
sheep in isolated areas. Over hundreds of years the Estrela Mountain dog
continued to develop into the breed as we know it today.
Description
This energetic dog loves to work
and loves to be busy. They are protective of their family and their home
and make excellent watchdogs. They can make a good family pet and do well
with other dogs and pets especially those that they are socialized with
at an early age. They typically do excellent with children. They do have
stubborn streak and can be a difficult to train. They require regular
exercise and play and are not meant to be cooped up inside all day long.
The more toys they have the better or they will look for other objects
of yours to play with. Tend to be suspicious of strangers.
