| Origin |
Spaniel dogs were believed to
have originated in Spain. English Cocker Spaniels are one of a variety
of spaniels that were imported into England. They are similar to the springer
spaniels, just smaller. English Cocker Spaniels were bred to be retrieving
dogs, often used in hunting a bird called the woodcock. They are still
used as retrievers for hunting but are often family pets as well. |
| Description |
This affectionate, energetic
breed makes an excellent family pet as they are good with children and
other pets and are loyal. They might not be the best dog if you have pet
birds in the house as it is in their nature to flush out and retrieve
birds. Because they have a lot of energy, English Cocker Spaniels need
regular exercise and play time. They are net meant to be left outside
all the time nor cooped up in the house all day either. They need a little
bit of both. Although they can be easy to train, some might be more strong
willed than others. Also makes an excellent hunting and retrieving dog. |
| Health |
Overall a very healthy breed.
Minor problems with hip displaysia and prone to ear problems so ears need
to be checked regularly. |
