Origin
Originated over 2000 years ago
in the southern provinces of China. It was used as a hunting dog, to protect
livestock and as a guard dog. They were also used for dog fighting. Now
they are mainly companion dogs and family watch dogs.
Description
Playful, active and extremely
loyal, the Chinese Shar-Pei can make an excellent family pet. Early socialization
with cats and children is suggested. They can be aggressive to other dogs,
so early socialization with dogs is extremely important. They can be head
strong and stubborn so early training is essential so that they will let
you be in charge. Without training, they can be difficult to manage as
they have a mind of their own. They enjoy companionship and spending time
playing and lounging with their family. They make an excellent watchdog.
Health
Overall good health. Some skin,
mouth and ear problems and problems with hip dysplasia, entropion and
actropion.
