| Origin |
Originating in Africa, the Chinese
Crested, or "African Hairless Terriers" as they were called
at the time, were companion dogs and actually used as bedwarmers. When
Chinese trading ships came to Africa, they took some of the dogs and renamed
them Chinese Crested. They were used as ratters on the ships. Today they
are mainly used as companion dogs or for show. |
| Description |
This energetic, playful breed
makes an excellent companion dog. They enjoy being with their owners and
don't like to be left alone for long periods of time. Early socialization
is commanded with other pets and dogs as they can be timid around dogs
and people they don't know. Because they can be fragile animals, they
are not always best with young children that might be too rough with them.
They love to be held and cuddled and will spend plenty of time snuggling
with you. Because of their energetic nature, they need plenty of play
time and exercise. |
| Health |
Some eye problems, tooth problems
including loss of teeth. The hairless breeds are prone to allergies and
sunburn, so sunscreen is a must. |
