| Origin |
The Belgian Malinois is one of
four Belgian Sheepdogs. It is named after the Belgian city of Malines.
In some countries all four Belgian Sheepdogs are considered one breed,
Belgian Malinois is recognized as it's own breed by the AKC. Popular in
Belgium, the Belgian Malinois is used for many things including herding,
search and rescue and police work. |
| Description |
This intelligent, protective
and energetic dog is still more of a working dog than domesticated pet.
They love to work! They make an excellent farm dog, watchdog and herding
dog. They can make a great family pet as well. They need to be socialized
and trained from an early age. Harder for a novice to train than someone
who is more experienced. The earlier they are introduced to children,
dogs and other pets, the better they will do. The Belgian Malinois has
a lot of energy and loves to be on the go. They need plenty of room to
run and play. They are not meant to be indoors all day. |
| Health |
A very healthy breed. Only minor
problems with hip dysplasia, allergies and eye problems. |
