| Origin |
The Belgian Laekenois is one
of four Belgian Sheepdogs. In some countries, they are actually considered
all one breed. The AKC recognizes the other three breeds, but does not
recognize the Belgian Laekenois. They were originally bred to watch over
linen bleaching fields and then later used to watch over sheep. Today
they are mainly used for herding and as guard dogs. |
| Description |
This intelligent, protective
and energetic dog is still more of a working dog than domesticated pet.
They love to work! They make an excellent farm dog, watchdog and herding
dog. They can make a great family pet as well. They need to be socialized
and trained from an early age. The earlier they are introduced to children,
dogs and other pets, the better they will do. The Belgian Laekenois has
a lot of energy and loves to be on the go. They need plenty of room to
run and play. They are not meant to be indoors all day. |
| Health |
A very healthy breed. Only minor
problems with hip dysplasia, allergies and eye problems. |
