Coat	A mixture of soft and hard hair. The coat tends to be curly but not wiry
Origin	The Bedlington Terrier originated in England. It was originally known as the Rothbury, Rodbury or Northumberland fox terrier. The first Bedlington Terrier was born in 1825. They were originally bred as hunters of small vermin such as rabbits and badgers.
Description	This gentle, loving and intelligent breed makes a good family pet. They are good with children, but due to their energy level, they are better with older children or children who are well behaved with animals. They can be good with other dogs and pets, but need to be introduced to them at a young age. They are extremely quick and should be kept in a fenced in yard or on a leash as they are very hard to catch if they run from you. Even though they enjoy exercise, they are happy to spend a majority of the time indoors. They are not meant to be left alone for long periods of time. They love to be around people. They are protective of their family, so don't let their size fool you. They can fend for themselves if they need to. They might be wary of strangers at first, but will warm up to them. They are easily trained.
Health	Overall good health. They have an inherited disease called Copper Toxicity or Copper Storage Disease (a liver problem). They may also experience problems with thyroid problems, eye problems and kidney disease.
