tri-color (black or brown, tan
and white) with tan spots at the eyebrows
Coat
Hard, close outercoat that is short
to medium in length. Soft, dense undercoat.
Origin
The Appenzeller Sennenhunde is
an alpine dog, originally bred in Switzerland to herd cattle. Today they
are used as a cattle-driving dog or farm watch dog.
Description
The Appenzeller Sennenhunde is
an intelligent, highly active dog that needs lots of exercise and space
to run. Because they were bred to herd cattle and roam the countryside,
they do best if they are allowed to run in an open space or large yard
than to be tied to a chain. They are great with children but, due to their
high energy level, are best with older children. They do well with other
pets, better with dogs than cats. They make an excellent farm dog.
Health
A healthy breed. Hip and elbow
dysplasia and thyroid problems are minor and do not occur with all dogs.
