The origin of the American Water
Spaniel is not exactly known, but is more than likely a cross between
the Irish Water Spaniel and the Curly-Coated Retriever. He is an excellent
bird dog with a keen sense of smell and does well flushing and retrieving
game. The American Water Spaniel is the state dog of Wisconsin. |
| Description |
The American Water Spaniel is
an intelligent, highly active dog, sometimes bordering on hyper. They
do well as a family pet, but due to their high amount of activity, they
might not be suitable for some young children. They are good with other
pets. They require a great deal of exercise and love to play fetch and
running games. |
| Health |
Overall a healthy breed. Might
develop skin problems, hip dysplasia, or eye problems, although these
problems are not found in all American Water Spaniels. |
