The Staffordshire Bull Terrier
was cross between the bulldog and terriers in the Staffordshire region
of England in the early 19th century. When it was brought to America by
settlers, the American breeders increased its head size and weight. The
American Staffordshire Terrier was bred for show while the American Pit
Bull Terrier (with the same ancestry) was bred for dog fighting. The American
Staffordshire Terriers have been used as watchdogs, guard dogs and police
dogs. |

The American Staffordshire Terrier
is a loyal, loving, intelligent dog that does well with training. It can
be good with children and other pets, especially if they are reared together
from when it is a puppy. They require regular excercise. They make an
excellent watch dog for your home. |

A very healthy breed. Problems
with hip dysplasia, cataracts and hear problems is not common, but can
occur. |
